Small Victories

Just wanted to say: Today, I put away the laundry within three hours of doing it. Heck yes. Also, the change of seasons means another swapping out of the wardrobe and purge of stuff I don’t like all that much after all. Woo for biannual reorganization!

NFP

Went to our first NFP (Natural Family Planning) class yesterday evening, and overall, I’m rather impressed. Our teaching couple and the class itself were a bit less dynamic and interactive than I’d hoped for, but as for the method itself, I don’t have the doubts I did before. It’s a scientific approach to using what you’ve …

Harvesting Fall

This time of year always awakens a different sense of being for me. It’s about winding down from the heat of summer and gathering. Gathering the last bits of the garden’s summer bounty, the shorts and sandals to be put away for next year, gathering friends and family- gathering yourself up and reflecting. It’s about …

Sunday-Evening Clean

What to do on a Sunday evening after a whirlwind Saturday out of the house and with a small pile of homework-related tasks to see to…hmm… Procrastinate by doing something else that needs doing, of course! Since I’m just not quite in the mood for homework yet, I’m going to get going on the REAL …

Dinner Challenge

Since we’re on a stricter budget than previously, and both of us are now very aware of how much food we have in the apartment (mostly the canned goods- egads, the canned goods!), Ryan and I have issued ourselves a challenge to not go grocery shopping for a month. We decided this on the 18th, …

Instead of having a nice, measured pattern to certain things- dishes, laundry, the bathroom, a quick vacuuming- everything goes up in the air until I find a …

10 Years: Thoughts on 9/11

I know it’s not strictly in the scope of things here, but I feel the need to make an exception for a day that changed so much. Almost 3000 people died. A war (or two) was started. History was made right in front of our eyes ten years ago today. I was 11- about a …

Flowers in the Kitchen

*sigh* I’ve been wanting to have flowers in this place since we moved in. The ones on the houseplants (when my African violets cooperate) and dried roses don’t count. I mean fresh-cut flowers. I don’t know what it is, but to me, there’s something very well-loved and finished about a room with fresh flowers in …

The Before and After in the Kitchen: Part 1, Drawers

I promised photos, so here they are. The drawers I’d still like to get pretty paper on the bottom of, like in the job IHeart Organizing did (see previous post for the link). The cupboards are awaiting Christmas to see how the list turns out (and, well, because I spent my current organizing budget already, …
